CHINA - May 12 - May 31, 2010Travel and study in the historic and modern cities of Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai. This course is designed to help students understand contemporary China first hand by examining issues of economic reform, social justice, and individual freedom and responsibility and other dramatic changes in light of China’s transition from a planned to a market economy.This program combines intensive classroom study and lectures with site visits and personal contact with various Chinese communities, enabling students to begin exploring these issues related to modern China on the world stage.
ITALY - May 10 - May 29, 2010Travel and study in Rome, Florence and Venice, and the surrounding Veneto region of Northern Italy. This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to study Italian art history, architecture, religion, culture, and civilization, and to incorporate some of these ideas about art, politics, and religion that have been important in the shaping of modern thought. Students will explore regional and cultural differences while visiting medieval walled towns and dynamic metropolitan cities.Additional lectures on Italian history and culture, art and architecture, religion, and global commerce will be presented by Italian professors in their specific areas of expertise.
PALESTINE - May 10 - June 1, 2010This three-week program combines classroom study, guided reflection, conferences, and first-hand personal contact with various Palestinian organizations, students, and families in Israel and the Occupied Territories. The students will have the opportunity to experience what life is like under military occupation, to learn from various social justice groups and individuals about life in the region, to interact with Christian and Muslim students in a LaSallian university in Bethlehem, and to visit many Biblical sites.
