HECUA: Community Internships in Latin America (Spring 2012)
My experience throughout my time in Ecuador was incredible. My host family was very welcoming and I felt like a member of their family. My internship at a radio station taught me a lot about public speaking and gave me very interesting opportunities to engage myself in the political aspects revolving around the country. Going to the Amazon rainforest was also an incredible experience, though the reality of petroleum extraction is devastating. I enjoyed my time in Quito and traveling around Ecuador with the program and during spring break and weekend trips! I loved getting to spend a few days with indigenous families learning their traditions, their daily routines, and especially their stories. By the end of the semester I wished I could stay longer; and I have been reminded through frequent e-mail contact that I am forever invited to return with my host family!
